When my friend Joe invites me into NYC for a show, I know it will be interesting.
But a recent email from Joe inviting me to a production of Shun-kin at Lincoln Center had to take the cake.
This is how he described it.
Doesn’t sound like my thing. I’m more of a gleeful Rodgers and Hammerstein kind of girl.
But several of my friends were going, there was the opportunity for rooftop dining at Joe’s apartment (which I always love!) and it was a night out in NYC. So why not?
How many times have you passed up something, whether it be an event, a new pair of shoes, trying an unusual appetizer….because it’s ‘not your thing?’
Turns out Shun-kin was riveting. It was a lovely evening, even though our rooftop dinner plans were moved inside due to the weather (check out the view of Columbus Circle through the raindrops). I’m so glad I was willing to step out of my comfort zone. I really was not expecting to like this, so I was pleasantly surprised. Even the puppetry was fascinating. I was actually expecting something more along the lines of sock puppets!
I realize, while I consider myself to be open minded, I had jumped to conclusions and made assumptions.
How will you open your mind today?
