Even though my pic this week says ‘vacay mode’, I’m not on vacay (that was last month), but this is vacation time of year for many. Even if you’re not traveling, it’s a great time to hit the pause button before we are full steam ahead into fall.
I came across these words from Danielle LaPorte in an email I had saved from back in 2018 believe it or not. It resonated and reminds me to be still, (definitely not my strong suit).
Since I couldn’t have said it any better, this week I share her words with you:
Our society is addicted to productivity.
We think productivity increases our value as a human.
And we want to be valued and loved.
So…we become addicted to productivity.
Which means…being still is an act of courage.
Here’s a reframe on taking a break or slowing down: You are not weak, you’re not giving up or losing ambition, and you sure as hell aren’t lazy.
When you pause, you are rebellious and wise. Courageous. You’re synchronized with Mother Nature herself.
By going into savasana, stopping —
Sabbaticals. Extended holidays. 4-day work weeks. Shorter work days…all of these practices run counter to so many of our current addictions. The system is set up for us to rest after we’ve “made it”. Hustlers flaunt their vacation-loaded lifestyles and the message is clear: “I got money and I bought me some time with it.” When motivators talk about taking a break, it’s usually in the context of pausing so you can be more productive later — that’s the addiction disguised as self-help. Pause to FEEL. Pause to KNOW YOURSELF BETTER. Pause for LOVE.
Wisdom is so underrated these days. Slowing down won’t get you any “heroine” accolades. But…
