This weekend I had the pleasure of celebrating the 75th Birthday of a dear friend’s mother. I’ve known her for years. In fact she was also my High School guidance counselor. The festivities began with a tasty buffet of southern comfort food at a local restaurant and continued at the newly revamped bowling alley, complete with birthday cheesecake, dance music, lots of laughs and of course the requisite bowling shoes. A slideshow of photos spanning the years, as well as a compilation of home movies, provided a nostalgic backdrop for reminiscing.
I had a blast!
When I described the event to a friend, the reaction was – bowling, really? It’s not that the Birthday gal is a bowling freak (although she did bowl a strike during the night). It was simply because it’s fun.
I’ve always loved the quote “We don’t stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing.” Although I don’t know who said it, I do know it’s truth.
Think about the last time you truly kicked up your heels and played, just like you did in your own old photos and home movies.
I’ve definitely upped the “fun factor” in my life this year and I can honestly say it’s been one of my favorite years ever. It also leaves me excited and wondering what adventures and experiences 2015 will bring.
Isn’t time we all lighten up and go have some fun?!
