Recently I shared that carving out time to be alone is essential for me to stay balanced (and sane!). Juggling multiple roles and demands on my time require that I refill the well regularly . We’ve all heard the old ‘put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others’ example countless times, but how often do we take it to heart?
It doesn’t require a pricey massage or weekend at the spa (though those would be nice!) to find your own sanctuary. Often I find my sanctuary is at the beach. When the weather is nice I’ll walk on the beach, but I’ve been known to simply sit in my car with cup of coffee and a book. Nature, especially looking out at the water, does wonders for restoring my energy and my spirit.
Another favorite sanctuary is my bath tub! Anyone who knows me, knows that I can be found there at least once a week. Whether I have a pile of magazines and catalogs, a good book, a cup of tea, or a glass of wine or just silence. Yes, I have piles of bath products (my personal fave is to add doTerra essential oils to the tub, along with Epsom salts), plenty of candles, and of course my little rubber duck!
It doesn’t matter where, when or how you find your own personal sanctuary, the important thing is that you find it and commit to honoring yourself and refilling your well.
