I’m just back from a short trip to Pittsburgh (my hometown) to celebrate my grandfather’s (Papa) 98th birthday. Yep. 9-8.
He’s still going strong and while his knees aren’t what they used to be and he has trouble getting around, he’s retained his sense of humor and sharp mind.
In addition to indulging in LOTS of chocolate, he spends hours surfing YouTube, took his first ‘selfie’ this weekend, and insisted that I teach him how to print envelopes from his computer while I was there.
I guess I could say, why bother, but then again, maybe learning something new is one of the keys to his longevity (or maybe it’s the chocolate). When we stop challenging ourselves, when we remain in our comfort zone, when we ask ‘why bother?’ little pieces of our mind, body and spirit begin to dry up.
So in celebration of Papa’s Birthday (which is technically tomorrow), I invite you to learn or try something new this week.
Let me know what you attempt, and how it goes. I’ll be sure to share them with Papa, cause after all he does have email!
Happy Birthday Papa!
