Last week I brought back weekly Lives with a focus this month on weekly rhythms.
One of the most powerful rhythms I created several years ago is the rhythm of a weekly GIFT.
GIFT represents these four actions:
Give
Inspire
Follow up
Thank
This practice can be quite simple.
Your weekly GIVE could be as simple as treating a friend to a cup of coffee, sending a Birthday card, giving someone your time and attention, or donating to a favorite cause.
INSPIRE can be getting inspired OR inspiring someone. Inspiration can be found everywhere. My favorite ways to inspire myself are through reading, watching documentaries or YouTube videos, and listening podcasts. Of course, there is an abundance of inspirational quotes and ‘memes’ sprinkled throughout social media that can inspire as well.
FOLLOW UP can be personal or business related. I love to follow up with customers to check in, but I also find that intentionally making a point to follow up with friends and family as well. Follow up to set that lunch date with a friend you both keep meaning to schedule.
Finally, THANK is self-explanatory. Who can you thank this week? I’m a fan of snail mail thank you notes, but a text or email can work too.
